"We, at Zeus+Dione, often turn to the Archeological Museum of Athens for inspiration...''

24 FEB 2023

On the premises of one of the most important museums in the world, we find refuge and stimulation for creating and producing one-of-a-kind items to be loved and cherished by the women of our times. For that, and countless more reasons, we are beyond excited for the announcement that our favourite place in Athens is getting a major makeover.

The National Archaeological Museum, located in Athens' Exarchia district, is renowned for its vast collection of prehistoric and ancient art. Its treasures include the 3,500-year-old gold funerary mask known as the Mask of Agamemnon and the Antikythera Mechanism, a device used to track the sun, moon and planets. The original neoclassical building, dating back to the 19th century, will undergo modernization and expansion to meet today's standards of quality, openness, and sustainability. The project was awarded to David Chipperfield Architects Berlin and Alexandros Tombazis & Associates Architects, who drew on the essence of the original structure to create a stunning proposal of a plinth growing out of the existing building, and the incorporation of biophilic-inspired design elements, “bringing the outdoors in”.

As enthusiasts and boosters of timeless design, we are thrilled to see the Archaeological Museum of Athens undergo such a transformation. We anticipate the renewed inspiration and resourcefulness it will bring to us and to all those who visit it."
