Immerse yourself in the world of Zeus+Dione and their Resort’24 Collection, where past and present intertwine and the legacy of Greek artisans’ merge with the zeitgeist of the modern world. From the depths of Kalymnos’ sponge divers to the hands of Syrrako’s master tailors, the collection, and the journey to get there, celebrates the country’s rich heritage and varied crafts people. Intrigued by the allure of Greek artisans’ uniforms, Marios Schwab charts a cartographic opus, an interplay between the time-worn and the refined which celebrates the simplicity of the Doric aesthetic, the very essence of Greece minimalism.
Immaculately tailored trousers, sleeves precisely rolled, and hats steeped in symbolism become the embodiment and essence of the artisan the piece is inspired by. Jumpsuits and pinstriped tailoring reference Greece’s celebrated outdoor photographers, and the barbers’ pristine white aprons. Each garment tells a story of their provenance and of those who wore them.
At the core of this story resides Athens, the genesis of the brand’s ten-year creative voyage. Taking inspiration from the esteemed Athenian merchants, such as Christakis - Gentlemen’s Tailors, Schwab transforms Spathoto silk into sharp, gender-inclusive creations tailored precisely. Celebrating the sensual and tactile relationship between the garment and its wearer, this signature fabric feels almost soothing to the skin.
Conjuring the fervor of coppersmith workshops in Piraeus and Northern Greece, this ancient metal is interspersed throughout the collection in hardware, imbuing the colour palette with a warmth and lustre. A colour palette of fuchsia, Yves Klein blue, black and white, khaki interwoven with golden threads and metallic silver.
Schwab pays homage to the iconic, black-veiled female figure of Greek legend in the women’s collection, which has a melodic quietness. From the enigmatic widow in Zorba the Greek, to the somber beauty of Marina in The Girl in Black, to the indomitable Madalena of Finos Film productions, the designs honour these women and resound with purpose, harboring untold secrets.
