Zeus+Dione x Ancient Greek Sandals

27 MAR 2021

2021 is a landmark year for Greece - the 200th anniversary since the Greek War Revolution of 1821; the event that led to the independence of Greece from the Ottoman Empire. Marios Schwab, Design Director at Zeus+Dione and Christina Martini, Creative Director or Ancient Greek Sandals, joined forces and looked back at history to create this capsule collection in celebration of the anniversary.

Both brands are very proud and excited to partner with another iconic Greek brand to commemorate the milestone year.  The sandal collection takes inspiration from Tsarouchi, the traditional Greek Evzone guard shoes, which are still worn by the Evzones of the Greek Presidential Guard. Styles include the Harness Slide, the Harness Clog, the Wave Clog, the 8s in a slide and lace up style, and the Tsarouchi in a slide, back strap and lace-up style.

'THE 8s SLIDE'

Symbolism and craftsmanship are the core of this piece. 'Oktaraki' motif a symbol of infinity that derives from Greek Nature gets embroidered across the slide. 'Karydokompos' buttons - knot buttons widely used in folkloric outwear as decorative fastening - are the final detail of this synthesis.

'THAROUCHI'

Tsarouchi footwear - part of 'Evzones' traditional costume - gets redesigned into a slide in bordeaux color tone, symbolizing the blood of the Greek Fighters spilled during the Revolution. The slide is embroidered with contrast hand-stitching, in geometrical motifs inspired by embroideries of this era.
